| 68 | TOV LIFESTYLE Adopt a Hobby For many of us, we find that our phones serve as a distraction from boredom. This Spring, I'd like to encourage all of us to rediscover our hobbies. And if you have none, try something new! You may have a hidden talent waiting to be pursued. Pick up that paintbrush and create something real! Setting down our time-wasting phones and spending those minutes doing things we actually enjoy is critical to strong mental health. Hobbies encourage us to be patient as we learn to do new skills. They can relieve stress and bring some joy back into our lives. Using your mind and body to create and produce something tangible will give you fulfillment in a way that you could never get from social media. Read Unplugging from social media becomes a little less challenging when you open a book and fall into another world. Taking 20-30 minutes a day to read is quite possibly one of the easiest and most effective ways to unplug. Squeeze in the time while you're on the train in the morning, as you eat lunch or right before bed. I find that there is nothing more satisfying than flipping through pages of a novel on a warm Spring day. Find reading material that you love. Trade mindless scrolling through Instagram feeds for some mental stimulation and page turning. You'll find yourself more relaxed and your mood improved. Head Outdoors So many of us work in offices, warehouses and other indoor spaces, where we sit under fluorescent lights and in front of computer screens. When Spring rolls around and the weather gets warmer, most of us are itching to get outdoors. Try leaving your phone at home for a bit. Studies show that the more time spent outside, the less fatigue and anxiety we feel. Fresh air can also boost creativity, your immune system, and your overall mentality. Find a park or a pier to watch the sunset. Wander into different neighborhoods in the city to check out what markets and events are going on. And don't forget your sunscreen! trade mindless scrolling... for page turning
